Those words came were spoken to one of my clients upon sharing her eBook idea, a brilliant one she is in the process of writing.
Well, no one reads them, but Borders launched their own eBook store today, to compete with Amazon, Apple and Barnes & Noble.
No one reads eBooks — why would they? Even though the US Consumer Electronics Association estimates that just over two million eReaders were sold in 2009 with around five million units expected to be sold in 2010 (via ITProPortal).
Even though no one is reading them, the Association of American Publishers reports (via the Philadelphia Inquirer) that 2009 e-book sales increased 176.6 percent over 2008, compared to a whopping 1.8 percent increase in sales of traditional books. eBook sales hit $117.8 million by April of this year, already equal to 69% of last year’s sales.
But pay no mind, because no one reads eBooks.
