It’s time to write it.
As Thomas Edison so famously said, genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.
Well, don’t feel like you need to be a genius to write an eBook and I would give inspiration more credit (at least 20%).
The truth remains that you can only judge the merits of an idea if you build something out of it and get it out there — and that’s where perspiration comes in.
Don’t do it alone.
Anyone who’s worked with me knows that I am a huge fan of finding support for your writing in any form you can, and not just because I happen to be an eBook coach! My regular writing group meetings gave me the feedback and motivation to write the essay that landed me a byline in the New York Times and having Gary as a coach was like rocket fuel for the Sticky eBook Formula.
Like with exercise, having a buddy system is highly effective to achieving a long-term goal.
- Find a writing partner. Use this if you need accountability in reaching writing goals. Forums are a great place to connect with others also interested in writing eBooks, and there are a lot of great ones out there. If you read this before midnight on Wednesday June 9th, there’s still time to join the World Changing Writing Workshop, part of which is a forum full of people looking for writing partners.
- Start a writing group. This is great if you feedback from more than one person for added perspective and variety, but it takes a little more organizing. Check out “the Teacherless Writing Class” chapter of Peter Elbow’s book, Writing with Power for guidelines on how to efficiently run an effective writing group. It’s important to have a structure so that you don’t end up with 4-hour meetings.
- Hire a coach. Not only will hiring a coach up the ante financially, but a good one can really get to the underlying issues within the writing process such as time management or perfectionism. Dealing with these problem areas now will help you be a more prolific writer in the long term.
- Join a boot camp. A boot camp is a mixture of all of the above — peer support, coaching and accountability plus a limited time frame to really concentrate your efforts so projects don’t drag on endlessly. I’ve just designed a 45-Day eBook Bootcamp for a maximum of 15 students starting June 21st. Apply now if you want to get your eBook from idea to reality in just 6.5 weeks!
Multiply your motivation by getting others invested in your project.
You’ll be amazed at the results!
